SMASH: Earthbound Team by professorfandango SMASH: Earthbound Team by professorfandango
Look at these fine folks.

Not a lot I can say about them, they're all pretty obvious inclusions, except for probably Ike. Truth is I know virtually nothing about Fire Emblem but as far as I know Marth was in the first game (and maybe the second?) and Ike was the main character in the most recent game(s?) at the time so that makes sense to me, though I suppose a character wielding something other than a sword would be nice (and I haven't helped matters with my newcomer selection.)

The good Captain has been around since the start (I HAD played F-Zero briefly but had no idea who Captain Falcon was until Smash 64*) so it's about time the series got a new character and the same goes for Ness (and I had no idea who he was even AFTER Smash 64 since no Mother game has been released on these shores.)

Now by grouping these four together next up will be no fewer than four newcomers in a row!

*Alright you'll love this. I didn't even know who Samus Aran was until Super Smash Bros.! Somehow the entire Metroid series completely eluded my childhood!

Well thanks very much sir!
I have to keep telling people that these were a year old when uploaded 'cause I'd hope I can do better now but if people still like them I'm at least on the right track!

If this is the Earthbound Team, why isnt Lucas here instead of Captain Falcon?
Captain Falcon makes sense in the Starfox line because in his original pre-Smash Brothers game he was never playable outside of his space vehicle just like Fox.

Because I didn't include Lucas: [link] and the returning fighters were grouped based on their position in the roster but put into groups of four or five so as to conserve space. Finally, the "teams" were named based on the first character in the line.
It made more sense in the beginning with Mario Team and Zelda Team because they were all from the same franchise, but by the time I got here I wasn't prepared to upload Ness by himself then Falcon by himself then countless others by themselves.

Oh crud, I didn't know you weren't just redrawing the Brawl roster ^^;

Ness, Marth, and Roy helped introduce me to EarthBound and Fire Emblem respectively, two of my favorite Nintendo franchises. Ike's just awesome, too.

While I never got much into the Fire Emblem characters playing Brawl, you sure did a nice job giving them vivid cartoon personalities! :) And Captain Falcon is as epic as ever, so nice job.

And you're not the only one who didn't know about Samus till Smash Bros, so cheer up! :highfive:

Well thanks a lot, I'm surprised people are so positive about my FE attempts but hey, I'm glad of it!

And another for the list of Metroid not-knowers! I always felt I was massively out of the loop!

Well, even if you didn't have any clue of their identities up until now, you still did a mighty find portrayal of the. Love the style!

I especially like your drawing of Ike, there. Haha. Oh so moody!

I didn't know about Samus until Smash, either. That's mostly because I owned a NES as a teeny tiny girl and only cared for Mario games, and then I never got a SNES... so... There you have it!

Wow, seems as though Metroid ignorance was more prevalent than I thought!

Your caricatures of the Fire Emblem guys are hilarious XD

Yeah, I'm the same with Samus and Metroid. I didn't actually get into the series until shortly before Brawl came out but now I'm an avid Metroid fan.

Why thank you my good man, that means a lot! As I look at them now I'm not too pleased with them, but checking my dates these images are now about a year old so that would explain it!

Metroid and Zelda are on a bit of an even keel for me in that I enjoy both franchises but aren't religious about them and have only played about half the games in the series. I do try to keep up with what new characters and monsters are being designed, perhaps because that's the kind of work I do do myself. I'm sure you can relate!

Earthbound! Ah. What great memories you've brought me back to. I love the expressions on each of them! They're all very unique. Keep up the great work, as I draw inspiration with each piece of art you post.

It is a great game. Story is beautiful, and the characters, have their own charm to them. I too hope you can feel the excitement I've felt when playing the game. Let's hope for a 3DS remake, or even a port.

Trust me, you're not alone. I had no idea who Samus was either before Smash. Same goes for Ness, and I thank Nintendo every day for making me discover the Mother series.
Lucas really flet like a tease in Brawl. NoA has no plan of releasing Mother 3 in North America, so it just comes out as a slap in the face.
Also, that Ike is uber awesome.

Haha thanks, the Fire Emblem characters don't easily transpose into my "style"

I have played the fan translation of Mother 3 and it is immense. To be honest I think there's a chance we might get it on 3DS virtual console, and I would happily pay for it. But then I'm still waiting for Earthbound on Wii, I've still never played it!

Emulators, my friend. EB is a gem in a sea of garbage. (and I'm talking about the excellent games library of the SNES here!)

I just never got around to emulating it for some reason. Then, when SMRPG came out on Virtual Console (another classic that never made its way over here - even more heartbreaking since I followed it in magazines for ages) I just assumed Earthbound wasn't far behind!
