With a new Kirby game well and truly on the horizon, will we ever see Gooey again?

Gooey in Smash
As I previously mentioned: professorfandango.deviantart.c… as what is essentially a clone of Kirby, Gooey has a lot of potential for Smash, since he can borrow from pretty much any copy ability. I used the mix abilities from Kirby 64, though the 'elemental' abilities from Dreamland 2 or 3 might be more appropriate. Some people suggested incorporating the Animal Friends which is a pretty good idea too.

The thing is, with so many possibilities that are technically also available to Kirby, I feel like the only reason the character should be introduced is if he has a really special place in his own franchise, and Gooey...doesn't, really. He's only appeared in a couple of games and with a distinct lack of limbs it makes standard moves difficult to apply.

However, since he is supposedly made from the same material as Dark Matter, there could be some crossover there. Otherwise, Gooey could do with showing up in another game, maybe with a new gimmick?

Gooey in the Kirby series
Amazingly, I've JUST been playing the Kirby Battle Royale demo and it features Bandana Waddle Dee, a character I have never liked. He seems to have a significant role in this game and it kind of feels like he is the one standing in the way of Gooey ever coming back as Kirby's friend/sidekick. Modern games are much more content to include multiple Kirbys so for any two/four player game that required giving everybody the copy mechanic, I feel like they would just multiply the Kirbys and leave Gooey out.

(As it happens, one of the main reasons I didn't like Bandana Waddle Dee was because he carried a spear which seemed to not fit the character and be kind of out of place as an ability. Now, he seems to be equipped with a parasol - the signature Waddle Dee weapon - and that's really helped me to warm to him.)

But with two months until Star Allies comes out, I'm hoping they cram a lot of good stuff into it, old and new, so who knows if Gooey will get a nod?
