SMASH: Flint

Description

So in Brawl Lucas was nominated as the Mother 3 representative and while I understand that insofar as he's the main character of the game, has to overcome a lot and ultimately grows into a strong young man, for the purposes of Smash he's got nothing going for him! Not only does he look very similar to Ness, almost none of his attacks are actually his own!

So I felt that the Mother series needed a bigger variety so I chose Flint. Described by some as the "Chuck Norris of Nintendo," Flint is a stone cold badass who's not afraid to show his emotions (which he also does in a badass manner) You play as Flint in the first chapter of Mother 3 and he is Lucas's father so he's a pretty important character.

Power Smash: I see this as a parallel to the Falcon Punch. With a moment to focus, Flint swings his length of lumber and, if it connects, deals tremendous damamge.
Bash: Based on the "Bash" command in the game, which allows you to hit multiple times if you can press the button in time with the music. As such this would be similar to Marth's Dancing Blade. In Mother 3 this can hit a maximum of sixteen times but for Smash it's probably better to have fewer strikes with more power.
Ropesnake: In Brawl Lucas uses the ropesnake as a long distance grab and tether recovery but again, he never used it in his original game! Duster was the man in charge of the ropesnake and since he was friends with Flint before Lucas it would make sense for him to lend it to him. An obvious tether recovery, but can be charged (ie: swung like a lassoo) for greater height.
Running Bomb: Since he's only playable in the first chapter, Flint doesn't get very many special abilities so here's one of the items he can use. This tiny bomb runs along the ground for a short distance leaving a string of small firecracker explosions behind it.
Boney: For Flint's Final Smash he calls upon his faithful dog Boney! Boney works like a stronger, smarter* assist trophy and runs around the stage chasing and biting opponents for a short amount of time, during which Flint is still fully controllable.

*I find that Little Mac has an addiction to running off the edge of a stage.

Whenever I think of Flint being proposed for Smash I can only think of this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDMysz….

Regarding Lucas, I mean, barely any of Ness' attacks are his own either. Ness and Lucas both have PSI abilities that are more defense orientated and I don't think moves like Lifeup and Shield make for particularly interesting abilities. Also it's true they do look similar, but you could say the same about the Mario Bros. really. As for Flint himself, he would be unique choice (also the idea of a fighter who just smacks people with a 2x4 is great), though I'm not really keen on cutting Lucas (I like using him, while Ness isn't really my style), the main character of his game, for someone else, especially one who was only playable for one chapter.

Now for the specials. At first I thought Power Smash was his Final Smash with how big and central you made it on the image. Seems neat; I like the implementation of "SMAAAASH!". Maybe it would be a charge move like Flare Blade rather than an auto-charge move? Bash seems cool for implementing the musical hits mechanic from Mother 3. I'd say it having a max of five or six hits would be good. I hope Ropesnake has more length than it does for Lucas because it'd be a pretty weak recovery otherwise. I'm guessing it would but maybe it also would make him lunge upwards a bit when he uses it? Running Bomb is a neat little unique special, and I can see the fire cracker trail coming in handy (for example, fighters wouldn't be able to dodge or roll forward because they'd avoid the bomb but run into the crackers behind it instead). As for the Final Smash, summoning another character akin to an Assist Trophy is very unique and not like any other Final Smash in the series. Since I thought Power Smash was his Final Smash, I just assumed sending out Boney was his side/neutral special, lol.

Overall I think you've done a pretty good job here and Flint could be a pretty interesting fighter. Only problem is cutting Lucas, and I don't think Mother is a big enough series to warrant three playable characters.
